"Deconstructing Laver" is the collection I presented at The Fashion Institute of Technology's AAS Exhibition in New York City. The exhibition theme, "Crafted", challenged students to design garments exclusively using muslin fabric. As a student chosen to study under the Art Specialization Program, this collection is expressed through illustrations rather than physical garments.
"Deconstructing Laver" explores the deconstruction of James Laver’s three fashion principles, resulting in intentionally impractical and unwearable garments. Through this, I aimed to challenge conventional notions of functionality in fashion and celebrate form over utility.
Selected by a guest designer, my collection received the Critic Award for its 'excellence in concept development, illustration, and presentation.'
For the physical collection board, I hand-dyed and beaded a piece of muslin fabric to highlight the craftsmanship involved in creating these garments. I then draped it on the board to bring the designs to life.
